For Hero Dogs, it started with the tiniest pieces of leather left behind in our studio. The offcuts. The scraps. The pieces too beautiful to throw away, but too small for a bag.
I kept asking myself the same question: What else could this become?
Creating With Intention (and Less Waste)
At Moss Bags, reducing waste has always been part of how we work. Leather is a natural material, and we treat it with care - using it thoughtfully and intentionally.
Hero Dogs were born from that mindset.
Each little dog is handcrafted from full-grain leather. No two are exactly alike. Some are smooth, some pebbled, some a little more playful in texture - just like the dogs that inspired them.
What began as a simple leather keychain idea quickly became something much more.

The Moment Everything Changed: In-Person Events
The first time I brought Hero Dogs to an in-person event, I knew almost immediately that they were special.
People didn’t just look at them — they smiled.
They laughed.
They picked them up and held them.
And then the stories started.
I heard about newly adopted pups, senior dogs slowing down, dogs who had crossed the rainbow bridge, and dogs who were very much still ruling the household.
Hero Dogs weren’t just keychains - they became little reminders of love, memory, and connection.
The “Mini Me” Moments (My Absolute Favorite)
My favorite moments - hands down - are when someone finds a Hero Dog that looks just like their own.
Sometimes it’s the color.
Sometimes it’s the texture.
Sometimes it’s just the feeling.
They’ll hold the leather dog up next to their pup and say,
“This looks just like them.”
Those little “mini me” moments are pure joy - and they never get old.
Bestsellers, Right Away
Hero Dogs became bestsellers almost instantly.
Not because of a big launch or a marketing plan - but because people felt something.
They connected.
They clipped them to keys, bags, backpacks. They bought extras for friends. They shared names, photos, and stories.
I especially love hearing the dog names. Every single one.
More Than Cute: Giving Back
As Hero Dogs grew, it felt only natural to let them give back too.
With every Hero Dog and Cat, a portion of proceeds supports organizations that train and care for service and guide dogs - helping fund life-changing work every single day.
